Online Sorting

We do not offer an online card sorting service, but two popular web sites can be used effectively with our analysis software (SynCaps):

• WebSort.net
• OptimalSort.com

The instructions for using them in conjunction with SynCaps are detailed below. Note that SynCaps (because it is a desktop application) can handle much larger volumes of data easily compared with online analyses.

Both WebSort and OptimalSort require Adobe FlashPlayer browser plug-in to be installed when sorting.

WebSort.net

WebSort.net allows researchers to download raw card sort data directly in SynCaps format (see the screen shot below).

On the WebSort Results tab select 'Other Downloads' and then click on 'SynCaps'. Note that Quality of Fit is not generally supported by online sorting sites.

OptimalSort

Since Spring 2011 it has been possible to download Syncaps data directly from OptimalSort. On the Download data page, select the' Download results (.txt)' button under 'SynCaps data at the bottom of the page.

If you have raw .csv data from earlier versions of the OptimalSort site, you convert it to SynCaps format using a free Windows utility we supply:

Simply download the above file, unzip it and run the executable. There is no installation process. When you finish with the utility, simply delete it.
