6. Usability Evaluation

What's in it for me?

One of the major shortcomings of functional testing is that we only establish that a system does what we said it was going to. For interactive systems, web sites and intranets what we really need to know is whether they meet the needs of users and what kind of user experience it provides.

In this session you will learn about a variety of usability evaluation methods including testing with users. The focus will be on low-cost/high-return (guerrilla!) approaches but we will also take short excursions into more advanced topics and tools.

Topics covered

  • Fidelity
  • Design (cognitive) walkthroughs
  • Paper prototyping
  • Expert / heuristic evaluation
  • Benchmarking
  • Usability testing & eye tracking
  • A/B & multivariate testing

Who should attend

Most of the Guerrilla UCD webinars are intended for a broad audience:

  • Web designers and developers
  • Webmasters
  • Line and project managers
